The Alliance Has a New Name, but the Same Commitment to Health Policy Leaders

To our friends and supporters,

For 25 years, the Alliance for Health Reform has provided a nonpartisan forum for learning and dialogue among policymakers and other leaders working to address the country’s most pressing health and health care issues. We have convened hundreds of briefings on Capitol Hill and around the nation on timely and important topics, connecting Congress, the administration, and the media directly to experts to better understand the health care system.

Today, we announce our transition to a new name: The Alliance for Health Policy.

Our new name is not a radical departure from where we started, but it more accurately reflects our commitment to serving as a trusted resource and convener for the entire health policy community. While we are realistic about the differences that exist between political parties, business interests, and individual circumstances across our country, we believe that meaningful and sustainable improvements to our health care system are more likely when they come from a place of common ground.

Our name change reflects the need to focus on health policy informed by evidence, experience, and multiple perspectives. It is also driven by the recognition that “health reform” doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone, and that it is not a one-time goal. Health policy happens every day, and it has real-life consequences in ways big and small.

Moving forward, we are going to redouble our efforts to provide health policy leaders with the best possible information on the foundations of health policy and the tradeoffs inherent in any effort to find solutions. We will continue hosting retreats for members of Congress and congressional staff, Hill events for the health policy community, briefings for reporters, and webinars for people beyond the Beltway. And we will continue to develop new offerings to best meet the needs of our audience.

No matter our differences, we should be able to agree that better health policy is a common goal, and we at the Alliance take our role in that process very seriously.

Ultimately, there is too much at stake to not get this right.

We are proud of the important work that the Alliance for Health Reform has done for a quarter century, and we are grateful for your support. We are determined to make sure the Alliance for Health Policy continues that tradition.

Here’s to the next 25!
