Washington, D.C. — The Alliance for Health Policy announced the election of new Board of Directors officers for the term beginning January 1, 2022. Thomas Scully, J.D., general partner at Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe, will assume the role of chair. Tanisha Carino, Ph.D., formerly of Alexion Pharmaceuticals, will become vice chair and secretary. Margaret Murray, MPA, founding CEO of the Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP), will become treasurer.

“I have been involved with the Alliance since it began 30 years ago and spoke at some of their first events under the leadership of Senators Rockefeller and Danforth,” said Tom Scully. “I have always admired the Alliance’s mission to remain neutral and nonpartisan, and there has never been a more important moment to bring together people of differing political viewpoints. I am proud to be leading our outstanding Board of Directors as we support the Alliance mission during this incredibly important time for health policy.”

Thomas Scully has served on the Alliance Board of Directors since 2016, most recently holding the position of vice chair and secretary. He is a general partner in the Healthcare Group at Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe. Prior to joining WCAS, he was the administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for three years under President George W. Bush and the president and CEO of the Federation of American Hospitals for six years.

Tanisha Carino brings over 20 years of experience driving growth and impact across multiple healthcare leadership positions in the government, private, and non-profit sectors. She has been a member of the Alliance’s Board since 2016. She most recently served as executive vice president, chief corporate affairs officer of Alexion, a Fortune 500 biotechnology company focused on rare disease, and previously served as executive director of FasterCures, a Center of the Milken Institute.

Serving on the Alliance Board since 2016, Margaret Murray is a national expert on health care policy for people with low incomes and is a frequent speaker on these issues at national conferences and in the media. She founded ACAP in 2001, steering it through tremendous growth from its origins as an association of 14 community health center-owned plans to 79 Safety Net Health Plans across the nation.

The Alliance expresses immense gratitude to its outgoing members David Lansky, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of the Pacific Business Group on Health, Francine Parker, former executive director of the United Auto Workers (UAW) Retiree Medical Benefits Trust, and Reed Tuckson, M.D., managing director of Tuckson Health Connections and a founding member of the Alliance Board. Dr. Tuckson will become the immediate past chair of the Board of Directors.

“The leadership of our outgoing Board members cannot be understated. Under their guidance, these remarkable individuals have strengthened the Alliance and offered invaluable support as we have sought to be of maximum service to the health policy community during times of major challenge for our nation. I am deeply grateful to each of them for their unique contributions and perspectives, and they will leave lasting legacies as we carry out our mission going forward,” shared Sarah Dash, president of the Alliance for Health Policy.
