At this pivotal moment, we have a unique opportunity to get AI integration in health care “just right.” Panelists will discuss how policymakers can effectively balance advancing new AI technologies with ensuring safety, privacy, and efficacy in health care. Drawing from historical examples, experts will share valuable lessons from past policy implementations, including the acceleration of telehealth adoption, the evolution of HIPAA on data and patient privacy, and the modernization of electronic health records infrastructure.

Damon Davis is a healthcare innovator with over 20+ years of experience in health data, patient access to care, and reducing health disparities. At Novo Nordisk, his work in Public Affairs engages communities of color, civil rights groups, faith-based organizations, and men's and women's health associations in advocacy for policies focused on equitable access to health care and reducing health disparities. As an entrepreneur Damon enjoys real estate and investing in businesses with growth opportunities across industries. He is also an adoptee in reunion with his biological family members and has written a memoir to share the heart-warming story. Damon hosts two podcasts: "Who Am I Really?" where adopted people share their stories of adoption and attempt to find their birth families and, "Discovery Diaries with Damon Davis" where entrepreneurs and innovators impart their knowledge on investing, entrepreneurship, and life lessons.

Deven McGraw, J.D., MPH, LL.M.

Chief Regulatory and Privacy Officer, Ciitizen Health
Deven McGraw is Chief Regulatory and Privacy Officer for Ciitizen, a platform for patients to gather and manage their health information, divested from Invitae in 2023. From 2015-2017, she directed U.S. health privacy and security as Deputy Director, Health Information Privacy at the HHS Office for Civil Rights and Chief Privacy Officer (Acting) of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT. Previously she led the Health Privacy Project at the Center for Democracy & Technology for six years, testifying before Congress on health privacy issues on multiple occasions. She also is currently serving on the following: Health IT Advisory Committee (appointed by GAO); Data and Surveillance Workgroup of the CDC’s Advisory Committee to the Director on CDC’s Data Modernization; the California Data Sharing Framework Policies & Procedures Subcommittee; the Board of Directors of Manifest MedEx; and the National Academy of Medicine Artificial Intelligence Code of Conduct Steering Committee.

Geeta Nayyar, M.D., MBA

Geeta Nayyar, MD, MBA, is a globally recognized chief medical officer, technologist, and bestselling author who helps leaders leverage a human approach to innovation, including rapid advances in AI, to achieve better health and business outcomes. Jeff Smith, MPP

Deputy Director, Certification & Testing Division, Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
Jeffery Smith is the Deputy Director of the Certification & Testing Division at ONC where he oversees and implements policies related to the ONC Health IT Certification Program. He has served in this capacity since 2020 where he manages a team, spanning tools and testing, program administration, and conformance review functions. Previously, Jeff served as Vice President of Public Policy at the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and at the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) where he served as lead government affairs liaison to federal agency and congressional staff on matters related to health IT and health informatics. Jeff holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Kansas State University and received his master’s degree in public policy from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he specialized in healthcare and technology policy. Jeff is the author of several academic papers, published in Health Affairs, JAMIA, and Applied Clinical Informatics. He also authored a chapter on Public Policy for Clinical Research Informatics 3rd Edition.
