Senior Educational Program Manager

Position Overview

The Senior Educational Program Manager will play a key role in bringing the Alliance’s commitment to non-partisan, stakeholder-neutral policymaker education to life. The Alliance’s 2024/2025 programming is based on a two-part program lifecycle: “Incubate” and “Educate.”  This role will be responsible for program management of the editorial content, expert recruitment and management, event oversight and adult educational aspects that are central to the “Educate” phase of Alliance programming. This includes managing timelines, coordinating cross-functional teams, and aligning program goals with stakeholder needs in service of ensuring the delivery of high-quality educational content that advances the Alliance’s mission. 

This role will also lead the management of a new fellowship program for congressional staffers.

Additionally, this individual will contribute to fundraising processes that include the “educate” phase, helping develop and scope the “educate” related work in the Alliance program proposals, materials, and outreach.

An ideal candidate will proactively use their experience and competencies in healthcare and healthcare policy issues in issue landscape review, identification of experts and opinion leaders, and developing engaging and substantive content, including event specific content development and identifying and cultivating expert and lived experience representative relationships to ensure Alliance programming is on mission and high quality. 

Key Responsibilities

Event Content Development and Management

  • Lead the strategic management and coordination of a new fellowship program designed to educate and engage 30+ congressional staffers.
  • Lead the development of compelling event content, including identifying and recruiting experts and speakers for panel discussions, working groups, keynote presentations, workshops, and interactive sessions that address key health policy topics and promote informed discourse. 
  • Curate and produce high-quality event materials, including presentations, handouts, multimedia content, and promotional materials, to enhance the attendee experience and facilitate knowledge sharing.

  • Conduct high level desk research to be conversant in key health policy topics and stakeholder landscape, develop talking points for recruiting experts, and identify novel, educational and engaging content approaches. 
  • Coordinate with Insights Program Manager on issue-related elements of research strategy and materials, including participating in interviews and providing background considerations for content development.

Program Management

  • Manage cross-functional team members in setting and meeting deadlines for new Congressional fellowship and educational programs for Signature Series and Health Policy Academy.
  • Develop program-level goals and ensure consensus on objectives with internal and external stakeholders, reporting on the completion of milestones.
  • Develop journeys for participant experience and create and oversee work plans for expert engagement and event content development. 
  • Identify resource needs and allocations to ensure successful project completion.
  • Act as the primary project manager for assigned projects, communicating timelines, activities, and status updates with internal cross-functional teams via Monday.com and other stakeholders (including external consultants and vendors) via appropriate channels.

Community Engagement / Relationship Management

  • Responsible for expert community building and maintenance, management, coordination and facilitation of expert speakers at all levels of programming.
  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including sponsors, policymakers, healthcare professionals, advocacy groups, community organizations, and the public, to foster community engagement and support for the organization’s mission. 
  • Establish collaborative relationships within the Alliance and among Alliance community members and facilitate organizational collaborations for educational purposes.
  • Collaborate with community partners to co-create and co-host events that amplify diverse perspectives and voices, promote inclusivity, and address healthcare disparities.
  • Create the SOPs and work plans for the development and implementation of building expert bureaus, and conduct  expert outreach and community management initiatives.
  • Build out CRM platform for expert community management in conjunction with Alliance leadership team.

Evaluation and Impact Measurement

  • Establish metrics and evaluation criteria to assess the effectiveness and impact of events, including attendee feedback, stakeholder engagement, media coverage, and outcomes related to awareness, education, and advocacy.
  • Use data and insights to inform continuous improvement efforts and optimize future event strategies and content development.

Fundraising / Other Functions

  • Identify, create, and execute on-mission projects that can be proposed to funders and advance both mission and finance.
  • Contribute to Alliance development efforts, including writing funder proposals and identifying additional opportunities for partnership.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned that contribute to the effectiveness of the department and accomplishes strategic goals and objectives. 

Manage Alliance’s Internship Program

  • Lead the management and coordination of the Alliance’s internal internship program, including recruiting, selecting, and mentoring fellows. 
  • Oversee the fellows’ engagement in events and projects to ensure alignment with program goals and the broader organizational mission. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4+ years relevant experience.
  • Experience in event planning, execution, and management for virtual and in-person events (may include webinars; convenings; panel discussions; working groups; roundtables; coalition meetings; briefings for members of Congress; reporter/media briefings; etc.)
  • Knowledge of health policy, health care systems, public health stakeholders, and federal policymaking processes
  • Previous Congressional experience is ideal.
  • Experience with external client/project management.
  • Collaborative team player with a track record of effective people management and/or coordination.
  • Independent, self-starter that can stay cool under pressure and contribute to a positive office culture.
  • Excellent public speaking skills and writing skills.
  • Familiarity with the management of virtual events using GotoWebinar, Zoom, Eventbrite, and/or similar virtual event platforms
  • Familiarity with Monday.com or similar project management platforms 
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google workspace (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.) with an openness to learn new platforms

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary range: $85,000-$100,000, commensurate with experience. (Please include your salary requirements with your application.) Our outstanding benefits package includes:

Location and Working Arrangements

This full-time position in downtown Washington, DC, offers hybrid and in-person work arrangements, with a minimum of two days of in-office work generally expected.
