Washington, D.C. — The Alliance for Health Policy’s sixth annual Signature Series, beginning in April 2022, will address the mental health and substance use disorder crises in America.

The Signature Series is the Alliance’s annual hallmark programming that seeks to address the most challenging issues in health policy by convening cross-sector dialogues with experts in both policy and practice. Together, we critically examine these issues to identify what’s at stake, as well as key areas of challenge and opportunity.

The 2022 iteration of this annual Series has been redesigned to focus on one central theme, thus allowing our audience the opportunity to dive deeper into the core issues of the topic and build upon their knowledge and understanding as the Series progresses. The six key elements of this reimagined Signature Series are all founded upon the principle of including diverse viewpoints and perspectives, ensuring each discussion and event is holistically approached.

“The Signature Series has grown immensely since it first launched in 2017. What started as a small endeavor has now emerged as a staple of learning and networking for the health policy community at large,” said Kathryn Martucci, Director of Policy & Programs.

The pandemic has subsequently contributed to and laid bare even more widespread challenges and disparities in Americans’ mental wellness. With a four-fold increase in adults who reported feeling symptoms of anxiety and depression in 2020 alone (KFF, 2021), millions of American households are affected.

The 2022 Signature Series will explore topic areas including mental health conditions, substance use and addiction medicine, and neurocognitive health, as well as the public and private sectors’ responses.

“There is growing bipartisan public policy interest in mental health and substance use disorders in the U.S., and for good reason: Mental health and substance use disorders are a front-and-center concern for American families, communities, and workplaces. Our Signature Series will be a unique synthesis of policy, practice, and person-centered dialogue, helping to identify inclusive and effective solutions towards better mental health and well-being in America,” said Sarah Dash, President and CEO.

Previous years’ themes included health and the economy, health equity, disruptors and transformers, voice of the patient, solving for health, health care costs, aging, and the future of health care.
